Boardgaming Group

Meeple of Basingstoke

Our Mission

Our goal is to provide a dedicated environment in which to play modern hobby board games. We aim to be open, friendly and inclusive, so if you want to come along to see what the hobby is all about, want to play new games that you've never tried before, or even if you just need a room to play a game that you already know, then we look forward to having you join us.

Our Story… so far

Meeple of Basingstoke has its origins in a sequence of gaming groups that have used the present venue for over a decade. The current instance of that group, the one bearing the MoB appellation, came about when the three founders (Peter, Martin and Mark) decided that the post-COVID venue adopted by previous iteration of the group (known as Boardgamers of Basingstoke - BoB) wasn’t really what they wanted, so they spawned a new instance of the group and based it at the original location. Thus proving that there’s nothing really new gaming¹

The group has been running in its MoB instantiation since May 14, 2022, and has gone from an initial 8 group members to the current 20+. We’re not a huge group, but we do have aspirations!

While Peter is now focussed on our sister group Meeple of Reading, Martin and Mark continue to run fortnightly Saturday MoB Sessions, work on growing the group through outreach on our various socials, and on running the annual MOBCON Open Day, where we provide 12+ hours of tabletop gaming for free to anyone who wants to turn up with a game to play, with a bunch of interested friends, or just on their own, looking to see what we’re about.

¹ technically not true, otherwise we’d still be playing “roll to move” games like ludo, snakes and ladders and Monopoly and disregarding the contributions of such game design titans as Richard Bleasdale and Donald X Vaccarino
